Re: 350 to 454 upgrade?
Wow,, this post has been very helpfull to me also. I too am in the same boat here and looking at the different options I have for replacing my 305 5.0LX in my 93 crowline (the old block was freeze damaged years back). It has answered alot of questions for me and I agree with the labor time issue (that being that I have rebuilt motors in the past and have slipped off the deeep end a time or 2 in the process, however it was a great learning experience) I beleive this winter I am gonna opt out and buy a remanufactured 383 long block though, as I have a 2 year old and dont really have the time to be messing around with machine shops and all , but I wished i did. My main concern was the stern drive being able to hold up , being that I have an alpha 1 gen 2 drive 1.50R... I knew they were good up to 300 horse, but factory's usually under qoute there HP ratings for them, or so I have been told?? (not for sure) anyways I plan on replacing my stern drive the following year to a bravo 1,,, so I keep my trigger hand steady and easy and let the alpha live for one year. Great post and replies, thanks to all.
