Re: $3500 speeding ticket????!!! YOWZA!

watch your speed, use your signals and you'll have nothing to worry about. ...

Maybe it is possible to drive lik that in VA, or where you are.... but don't ever come to Ontario- they 'll be shipping you home in a pine box.
I think if you did the speed limit here (on a bike no less)..... you would be taking a big big risk. The Quebec plate on the front of a Kenworth would move you along. Any attempt to hold the limit would be dangerous to everyone on the road.
Cops don't touch anyone doing less than 15 to 20 km/h over the limit on our major highways.
I've routinely go 125-135 and have cops pass me - as long as you go with the flow it's considered a life saving tactic and just common sense.

Grade 9 physics: - vectors - 2 objects going the same speed and direction can not collide.

Virginia leads the South historically. So watch out, the nanny state will come to you too.

It is an election year for the state senate and house of delegates. I'll be asking them about this.

As an aside the Jersey Tpke is a dilemma for out of state drivers. The speed limit is 55 and the traffic is going 80. And the cops are just looking for those VA tags they know won't show up in court.

Drive 55 on that road and you are a hazard, go with the traffic and you're a sitting duck.

I even have a radar gun I keep under my seat to shoot at the cars that fly by me. I call it my "tail light checker." I love watching the brake lights! If you have a fuzz buster and are speeding, you deserve to be played with like a toy! I just wait for you to get about 1/4 mile ahead and bam, tail lights galore!

If you dont speed my radar gun is useless and you have nothing to worry about. Why this simple idea is being brushed over by everybody is beyond me.

So let's see--you don't want other people breaking the law, yet you're willing to pull this kind of road rage inducing nonsense just to teach them a lesson? Tell me, how does this make anyone safer? What do you think an LEO would think if he found out about your little game? You think reckless endangerment is legal?

I try not to speed. No tickets in over fifteen years. I also tend to not get all self-righteous, especially when it comes to multi-thousand dollar fines for something as subjective as "obstructed view." When there's that much profit in a single ticket, and it's clear that the fine is there to generate revenue, I don't trust the enforcers to always use their best judgment.

That's payback for your troopers pulling over the NJ troopers a couple years ago when they were returning from Katrina......;)
As a former NJ driver, Virginia & Maryland were the worst for money grubbin' cops, IMHO........;):D

Not even the truckers are doing 90 on I-81!

The Va State Police pointedly ignored the violation, for the entire 250+miles of 81 through the Old Dominion.

Va. snuck this one by the residents. They made out like only DUI or Felony type offenses would be subject to these new fees. Now after passing it seems all offenses no matter how minor will cost you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in civil fees. No surprise that this overspending wasteful state government is coming up with just another way to get deeper into its taxpayers pockets.
Va. has gotten notorious as far as hinging most all of its penalties on your drivers license or vehicle registration whether driving related or not. If a person is going through a tough time and is late paying their taxes on their house they cannot renew their drivers license or registration until the taxes are paid. Va. has discovered that people need their license to drive to survive or get to work so they use that against you.
This state rapes its residents more and more with each passing year. I had been considering moving further south as I am getting older and I am starting to plan for my life as I get closer to retirement. I think that Va. has just made me decide to move my timeline up to decide where I would like to go.
I could understand the more dangerous or flagrant violations having added penalties but any violation at all costing you hundreds if not thousands of dollars? Makes you leary of driving anywhere as failing to give a turn signal while merging into traffic could be expensive. Also just like the driving too fast for conditions that is a matter of opinion and not black and white and I guarantee your opinion as a driver will not count!
Stay away from living in Va. if you want to have any money. Just a rant from a soon to be ex-virginian!

And they say Gitmo is run by Nazi's? This is over the top. STOP SPENDING MONEY YOU DON'T HAVE. GOVERNMENT RUN AMUCK. At $10 an hour that is 350hrs of work to pay a ticket for "speeding". Why not just send him to prison work camp for say three months. What kind of an idiot proposed this garbage? A Lawyer???

I fail to see how a little homebrew electronic warfare = "roadrage",or even "reckless endangerment".
It's my own little game too, although I have my tractor beams fully camoflauged.
I know a lot of cops that take radar guns on vacation, just for amusement purposes.

If some dillweed is so dense,as to panick and slam on the brakes when his radar detector goes off,THAT person is the reckless one,PERIOD.

Do you also mean to imply that anyone who has electronic/electrical devices that could concievably emit rf energy in certain bandwidths(burglar alarms, microwave ovens,etc..) to be some kind of criminal?
Maybe you should move to Virginia and run for office...:D

I do agree that the "tax" is beyond obscene, for the nature of the crime.
The TAX wording in the bill gets them around certain constitutional problems, for the present.
Then again,like every other state,they consider driving as a "privelege",not a right.

Of course, they all conveniantly forget that the money that funds all the roads is generated from compulsory(income,sales,etc..) taxes, for the most part.
In such, they cannot constitutionally limit the use of public roads to a priveledged part of the population, when even a small fraction of the funds are obtained from the general public, whether they are part of the "priveledged" few,or,not!

Time to pump the bilge in our legal system, for sure!

FWIW,10 years of serving as a volunteer rescue squad member has left me with the following conclusions:
Speed does not kill.
Speed plus stupidity is DEADLY.
Stupidity + ANYTHING is deadly.

To top it off radar detectors are illegal in Virginia. Scarce resources are spent for equipment to detect the detectors and ticket the owners.

what a country.
