What do you mean maybe, it IS the wrong impeller

I am not necessarily disagreeing... but what is it that makes you sure he has the wrong impeller? Here's a picture of the one you sent him to in the link above:

That looks like what he has - same number of vanes - 12. Again, I certainly don't know... just wonder what from the picture says it is wrong?

Read the sentence right under the picture of water pump theory.
One other problem I see with your impeller, is that it's too short. the shaft is sticking out past the impeller. The impeller MUST be tight between the cover and the base of the inside of the pump. IF not you have no seal and no pumping action.

Not to beat a dead horse, and really, the only reason I bring it up is to help the original poster. I understand what you're saying about the need for the impeller being tight against the cover - but it still appears he has the right impeller simply going by the picture. I would suggest to the original poster that he measure his. Here is what Sherwood states the dimensions should be:
Sherwood Impeller 15000K
Sherwood Rubber Impeller Kit Includes: Impeller, O-ring, Gaskets, and Technical Guide

Impeller Information

Width: 2" (51mm)

Diameter: 2-9/16" (65mm)

Now whether it has been installed correctly... that may be another story.

The impeller is wrong, i measured the pump depth which is 2" and the impeller i have is 1 5/8" (a Jabsco impeller).

All you have to do is look at the pictures of his impeller installed in the housing (with and without the cam) and you can see the impeller is below the edge of the pump housing by 1/8" or more. I don't know how it could be installed wrong, except for a missing cam, that would cause it to set below the housing like that. The shafts are almost always inside the impeller.
I have seen some pumps that have a bushing in the cover, but then the shaft sticks thru 1/2" or more to ride in a bushing. The old Volvo 4 cylinder pumps were like that. But not that one, I have seen that type pump before.

I guess that is what I was envisioning. Well, it's a good thing far more experienced eyes than mine are taking a good look. :D
