I have a 87 35 hp force motor and a 14ft starcraft v thats rated for a max of 45 hp. I would like enough speed to tow 2 kids on a tube and 2 adults on board. Kids about 200lbs and adults about 225lbs. Should this be enough motor. Also is there more than 5 hp differnce at the prop with a 59 model Johnson 40hp and a 87 force 35hp. Thanks for any help.

Re: 35force ok for 14 ft

I'm thinking that with a 45 hp rating, this boat is a small fiberglass runabout. The 35 will tow a tube, but not very fast. with that much weight in the boat and towing the tube she will be hard pressed. I think you will find that very soon the boat will become too small and too slow--As the kids want to do more--ie. wakeboarding, fast tubing for thrills, water skiing. Also, carrying all that stuff in a 14 footer doesn't leave much room for people.

If the boat is an aluminum fishing or general purpose boat, It will be lighter and you will get a little more performance. However, you will probably be at the limits of the boat's rated capacity.
