I have a 1988, Mercury, 35hp and I'm trying to figure out the choke linkage. There's a choke closure spring that has a loop on the end but I can't figure out where it goes? The other end bolts onto a stud for the choke plate. See photos. Thanks

Doesnt it fit into the semicircular recess to the left of the choke pivot shaft . Then tighten the pivot nut on other end of spring with it positioned so as to spring the choke plate back into position .

The choke linkages were mostly the same on the inline motors of that vintage. I think the stud that holds the plastic grating also holds the spring end.

Correct.
I just checked my 35 hp, and that is where it connects.

From what I can tell, this spring just holds the choke open when it is not in use. There is very little tension on it.
