363 under seat access

I am restoring a 1989 Ranger 363V. I need to access the fuel tanks. I believe I need to remove the seat to do this. Anyone have a tip on an easy way of getting the seat out?

On some models, Ranger attached the seats to a fiberglass panel that fits over the gas tank/seat area. Removing this panel gives access to the gas tank. The screws holding the large panel usually have small plastic buttons snapped over the screw heads for appearance.

The seat hold down screws are on the back of this panel.

Thank your for your reply. I think the panel you are referring to was used on the Ranger models with fold-down bucket seats. The 363 has a bench (see attachement). I think there are clips holding it but I haven't figured out how they work. The seat is is pretty good shape for an 1989 and I didn't want to tear up from not knowing what I was doing.

you are right about the buckets, that's what I have. I did find another site that gave specific instructions about the bench seats.

There are two catches at the front of the seat bottom, about 24" in from each side. Get in front of the seat and push straight back, then the seat can be lifted up from the catches. Push back and down to reinstall seats, it will be easier after you see the catches.

The seat back is held in place by plastic capped screws accessable from the rear compartment. Be sure you find all of them.

That was it.
When you look at the seat it's not evident you can even move it back because the rear of the seat and the bottom of the back rest are in contact and there is only about 1/2 an inch from the bottom front of the seat pan and the center bulkhead. But I went ahead and tried and there is enough give in the upholstry foam to move it back. It only took about 1/2 an inch movement and it was free. I suppose the pressure between the back rest and seat helps keep it in place when you are running.
