Re: 383 Stroker, what pistons for marine use 4500 constant rpms
i am running a 383 in mine built next door to me at the machine shop and we had all kinds of weird issues ... first off a vortec block has taller lifters and a regular flat tappet cam wont work in the block it is designed for rollers ... look at the difference between a standard lifter and the height of the vortec lifters... so i went with an older sprint car block and kept the vortec heads to keep compression down i had to go with multi layer head gaskets and wow are they expensive ... kept the cam mild ... 30 cc dished hyper pistons and it runs great compression is around 9:1 and 21 foot boat turning a 23 pitch mirage 4800 wot at 68 miles an hour on gps ... if you need specifics i can get all my spec sheets on what i used in it good luck
