3hp Johnson tank dents

I have a nice clean 54 3hp Johnson. Only thing really wrong with it is the tank has some dents on one side. Is there any good way work these dents out without cutting the tank open or is cutting it open about the only option. If cutting it open is the only option, any suggestions as to the best way to do it?<br /><br />Thanks in advance <br /><br />Frank

try a glue on dent removal tool any autoparts store should have them and they are cheap...has a hot glue gun the glue sticks and a few different size pulling heads....worked on the side of my suburban to get out a golf ball size dent...can't even tell it was there and didn't affect the paint...Good Luck

A lot depends on what kind of dents you're talking about. If they have any creases in them, then it's not going to be that easy to remove them with the tank intact. If they're just simple dents, then you might be able to pull them out, as DEIFan suggested. Another alternative is to start watching eBay for a better tank for your outboard.<br /><br />Is this tank steel or aluminum?

OK, go to eBay and search for "Johnson 3hp" (no quotes). There's a pretty tank there near the top of the list. Doesn't say for what year. If you keep visiting eBay, you'll find one. There were lots of those motors and eBay is very busy with folks stripping old motors and selling parts.
