i'm ready to put my bravo transom assembly in and have read the manual.
as near as i can tell the outer goes on clean and dry.

this is the way i'll put mine on but, after re-bedding all my thrue hulls i can't help but wonder if it would hurt to run a bead of 4200 or 5200 around the inside of the large gasket on the out side assembly.

is this unprofessional and would it make a mess ?

the alpha transom assembly seal looked fine when i took it off and there is no reason to think the bravo wont last as well.

as stated above i'll put in on dry unlees someone has a good reason not to. if it quits raining today that is

any and all opnions welcome and wanted

thanks john

Re: 3m-4200 on b3 transom install?

This won't be useful data, but I thought I'd mention it.

I used 3m 4200 to glue the gasket "tube" in place on my transom unit (outside transom plate) before I bolted it into place... I was worried about the uneven surface on the inside of the plate (some corrosion, missing paint) letting water leak in.

I still have a leak, though, which I have yet to find (my next guess is the bushing on the shift shaft).

Looking back, I think what I should have done is smooth out the mating surface on the plate with a light sandpaper, then paint it, then just lay the gasket in place. As long as it has smooth surfaces on both side to mate with it'll seal, and if you use 4200 on the transom glass you'll have a heck of a time ever getting it clean enough in the future to seal without it there, plus it'll make taking the transom apart unnecessarily harder.

Edit: Yes, it'll squish out and make a mess.

thanks erik; after sleeping on it and getting rained out yeaterday i think i'll try it.
i cant see what a small bead 1/8 th in or so will hurt other than gluing it to the transom.
allso found out yesterday that the bravo assembly is a little wider in a coulpe of spots so i'm going to have to sand a little this morning
