3M 5200 on transom wood?

I'm currently rebuilding the transom on my 12' Aerocraft tinny and was curious...should I use 3M marine sealant/adhesive to secure the wood to the aluminum in addition to stainless steel bolts? I would use clamps to let it set while everything dries and sets in place if I opt for the 5200.

If not 5200 should I use a different adhesive or just bolt it and forget about it?

Click the link below to see pics of my project for clarification in you'd like. The interior and exterior wood will not touch each other and the aluminum is flat so I feel that the 5200 may help keeping it sealed tighly to keep moisture out. Hope this makes sense...

Thanks

5200 is GREAT...if you never want to take it off again. We use 5200 to seal the mounting bolts on CG 25's, but that's only metal and metal. I saw 5200 used on a RHIB with a fiberglass transom for the same reason and it took the gelcoat off with it when we had to pull one of the engines.

I would NOT do it...Transoms always seem to rot out and if you ever decide to hang onto the boat and down the road and you need to replace the transom, you'll wish you would have left the 5200 out of the equation. My buddies boat had ply on aluminum that was 5200'ed on and, well, we could not ever, never, can't, impossible...get it apart.

5200 is expensive, and probably overkill, use something like pl400, it is way cheaper, and will do the job just fine.

Use about 4 stainless steel bolts and coat the bolts with grease where they pass through the wood and contact the aluminum.

No need to glue in the wood. The bolts are just going to hold is stable..... the strength is in the wood and aluminum.
