So I bought this boat on 5/31/11 and I want to have the motor pulled and ready to go before July 1st. The hull is in great shape but the heads are cracked on it because it was not winterized correctly. My plan is that I will be replaceing with a set of junkyard heads. With my work schedule its going to be tough but I think I can get it done.
I Pulled the outdrive the other day with my brother helping me. It was easy as cake 6 bolts, put the boat in drive, and pull back slightly and it comes right out. I found the Mercruiser manual online and it even has pics so taking off what I need from the motor was no problem at all. Here is a quick run through of what I did.
Step 1 disconnect battery ==== done (2:21am)
Step 2 disconnect battery wire from engine ===== almost (2:23am)
Step 3 disconnect fuel pump ====== not done (2:37am) (opened beverage)
Step 4/5 disconnect shift cables ======== done (2:54am)
Step 6 disconnect wiring harness ====== done (3:01am)
Step 7 disconnect power steering hoses stuck some paper towels in openings on boat that were exposed===== done (3:15am)
Step 8 disconnect bellows....cracked manifolds already removed === done (smoked a cig and finished my beverage 3:25am)
Step 9 disconnect water inlet tube ..... disconnected from motor instead of transom ===== done (3:32am)
Step 10 disconnect Trim position sender wires ====== done screws screwed back in so i dont lose them taped a white paper around the wire and left over exhuast (3:42am)
Step 11 finish those well deserved beverages and enjoy a great night of getting your boat ready before the 4th of July. (4:17am-5:27am)
Tomorrow afternoon or night...not sure yet depends on when I get up.
Step 12 connect hoist to lifting eyes (3) not the center hook that has all the hoses going into it ==== tomorrow
Step 13 disconnect ground from fly wheel .... belive is done can not find will check when i pull motor ==== tomorrow
Step 14 remove rear engine mounts ==== tomorrow
Step 15 remove two front engine mounts ===== tomorrow
Step 16 lift motor gentley out of boat with hoist. disconnect any wires that attach boat to motor still. dont forget ground from fly wheel
Step 17 you have now completed pulling the motor out of your boat.
Dont forget to bring your ipod or some form of music with you this is essental to have as it keeps you going (MJ was rockin it as I recall so "dont stop til you get enough")
It was a good night I got a lot done. I am heading to work right now so hopefully later tonight I will have the engine out of the boat. As long as it goes as easy as my last couple steps look I should have no problem.
Also the tools I used to do this was an adujustable wrench and a screw driver....Probally would have gone a bit smoother if I had my tool kit but really the wrench worked just fine. Its so easy to do that I think anyone could do it themselfs.
