I want to change the engine oil/filter. How many engine hours or how often should this be done? I'm beyond that now :)

I searched, but could not find answers.

If there is an archive article for changing oil, please point me there -

Hi there, do you know if the oil filter is remote mounted up on top of the engine or is the filter down towards the rear of the engine on the port side of the boat as that makes an important decision of what part number oil filter you'll need.

Since the new reman engine needed a lot of the accessories from the original engine serial number, you'll want to use that number (0L332123) for bolt on accessories but keep the other numbers just incase you ever have to do some internal engine work which require new parts.

807736R11 is the engine part number and you may want to familiarize yourself with the description noted on the left hand side of the following link. http://www.crowleymarine.com/parts/237200.cfm

The oil is easiest to change by sucking it out through the oil dip stick tube. There are lots of ways to do that including using one of the orange hand pumps usually found cheapest at Harbor fright tools for around $7.00. http://www.harborfreight.com/multi-use-transfer-pump-66418.html

If you have the remote filter, then item number 7 is the one you need, https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury...ote-oil-filter/assembly/2694/250?umodel=19204

If you don't have the remote oil filter then item number 21 is the filter you need, https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury...nd-front-cover/assembly/2694/210?umodel=19204

Here is your full parts guide for the 0L332123 serial number for you, https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-marine-parts-catalog/umodel/19204

What is the recommended oil, volume, and changing interval?

Ayuh,..... Dump in 4 quarts, start the motor, check for leaks, shut it down, 'n top off the oil to the level indicated on the dipstick, probably 'round, 'bout another 1/2qt,...

Once a season, or 100 hours, whichever occurs 1st,...

As for which oil,..... Any oil You wanta run,.....

I run 15W-40 Rotella T,....

Here's an okay how to change the oil video for you,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7I3kWcIpQk

As for what oil to use, I normally don't get to involved with which one to use but when working on them I just make it as easy as possible and try to follow what the OEM recommends which you can find the info right here, http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...-type-of-oil-do-you-use?p=4638774#post4638774

But when I stray from OEM, I just make sure it's a high quality brand of the same or around the close enough oil weight "okayed" by the Manufacturer.... Mercruiser makes it a bit harder as they have/prefer their own almost oddball oil weight and here is their reasoning for recommending their brand oil vs anybody else's. Engine Oil | Quicksilver Products

If you happen to be at a Mercruiser dealer buying your OEM oil filter then fell free to pick some up, if not pick a favorite brand/weight and try to stay with it over the years.

You should also be changing the stern drive oil too. And while there are few other oil brands, Mercruiser/Quicksilver High Performance Gear Lube sae 90 should be first on the list. You can sometimes even find it at a lower cost at Walmart.

Fuel filter should be considered too and you'll be able to find the part number in the parts guide linked above.

If you'd like to order comparable products from iboats and have it shipped to your front door, have a look at my signature line below titled OEM Quality Gear Lubes And Greases Available @ iboats.com as iboats carries Bel-Ray oil & grease products that are pretty much the same as Merc OEM.
