4.3 alpha 1 merc has lag, whats the issue ?

this is a 1989 bow rider, 21 feet with a chevy 262 dual barrel carb. it lags sometimes when i hit it.

is this a fuel problem ? I got it filled at the marina with non ethanol fuel. other than that this boat works perfect and wont let anyone down.

what can I do to get this lag or momentary bogging out of this engine?

also is it worth while to drop and tune a 4 barrel carb on this engine ?

Nature of the beast if you are hitting the throttle fast.
Those 2 barrel Merc or Rochester carbs are known for it.
You can adjust the accelerator pump in the carb and maybe see a little improvement.
Best thing is to ease into the throttle a little before going wide open.
