I was out on the water yesterday and this is the first time this has happened.Backing away from the ramp at just above idle it started jumping in and out of reverse. After i ran around the lake awhile and tried reverse again it didn't happen.
I was wondering if the drive being cold could cause this? or do i need some shift cable adjusting?
It has always shifted fairly easy.

Shift cable needs adjustment although I would check the condition of your drive cable. When mine started needing that much adjustment, it was really in need of replacing. I believe I replaced mine every 3 seasons or so.

Thanks Bruce.I need to research on which one to adjust, the upper or lower.I'm not sure which one is reverse..I got a Seloc book that is useless on this issue. It makes a good door stop...lol

There is a lot of information on the net regarding the adjustments of these.

Try this site:

http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/index.html

I had the lower cable replaced twice by dealers, one under warranty and one in the middle of my vacation and twice byself. After each of the dealers adjusted it, I readjusted it because they didn't do it right.

I would also suggest getting the upgraded bellcranck that is in the right had side of the drive. This allows you to grease the bellcrank as well as fill up the cavity there with grease.

One more thing...I keep remembering all the things I went through with my Cobra.

Make sure that where the cable attatches at the shifter has no slop. I actually replaced my shifter because the original one was so sloppy, it made it very hard to adjust at the rear of the boat.
