.... Where stock merc grounds the coil out to cut spark, delco puts 12v positive to distributor to effect the same. ..

No, it doesn't. On Merc shift interrupt systems, the interrupt switch (which is 'normally open') grounds the switched side of the sensor (the white/green terminal), NOT the coil....

And to make the delco system work, you need to reconfigure the interrupt switch (to operating as a 'normally closed' switch) to break the 12v supply to the module. Effectively 'switching off' the ignition system.

Not how mine was wired. Power thru the interrupt to the the EST as Scott stated.

Err, that's what this means....

Scott has it correct, switch works the same just applies 12V instead of a ground. Remove the ground to the shift interrupt switch and attach a switched 12V lead (purple wire)

Instead of the switch applying a ground, it applies 12V to the distributor to make it stumble.

Like a broken clock Im right twice a day... seriously I just got that off the wiring instructions for delco system unfortunately posted on a iboats competitors site so I can't post a link here. To the OP important thing is you get back up and running. when you get your kit ping the group if you need assistance

I got the engine running. Including the timing and wiring, I probably spent 1.5 hours and had the engine running. Very easy to install the Delco EST system. Prior to installing the Delco EST I did spend reading the instruction to ensure it was all clear in my head before starting. Including that probably 2 hours
