4.3 idles for 8-10 minutes then no-start

Two times in a row I have fired up the boat (Bayliner 185 with carb 4.3) only to have it idle fine for 8-10 minutes before it cuts out (idle slows down until it eventually dies) and then it will crank over fine but does not want to fire up at all. Checking back in a few days, it will fire up again.

Do these symptoms point to anything?

Ayuh,..... Sounds like it's runnin' outa Gas,....

Have ya changed the fuel filter lately,..??

Ya oughta, 'n Inspect the contents of the one on there now for water, 'n crud,...

What year is the engine? Have a engine serial number handy?

If not gas related when checking those things mentioned above - when was last ignition tune up?

The boat and engine are from 2007. I just had the carb rebuilt in the Spring, but no tune-up (plugs, wires, etc.) in several years. For my next steps I will check and/or replace the fuel filter and maybe the plugs and wires. Thanks.

It could be flooding, have you tried wot in neutral to see if it starts after it stalls out?

I'm not sure I know how to do that?

As FT mentioned we could use your engine serial number to verify what you have.

As for the start procedure: Push the button in and the base of the throttle handle. When doing this you should be able to move the throttle handle forward which will be opening the carb. If you can get it running with pumping the throttle a little or holding in full open while cranking, then it may be flooding

Disconnect the auto choke and turn it round. Really easy to do. Pretty standard on these engines after a few years.
Just pump the throttle 8-10 times before cold start there after.

Sounds like fuel pump issue I had. Pump would get enough fuel in to have it start it would idle fine for a few minutes then it would starve for gas and die

Fuel tank vent? Causing a vacuum and fuel starvation after a bit. Does taking the fuel cap of cause a big gasp of air? That's a problem with Yamaha dirt bike fuel caps.

I would try some starting fluid or dump a Little bit of gas in the carb to see if it fires after it stalls out. Other wise First thing I would suspect is the coil.
