I just finished installing a 4bbl Edelbrock 1409 carb with the Edelbrock performer manifold. the engine is an 89 V6 4.3 liter, it previously had the Mercarb. I also replaced the distributor.
the installation went well, and I replaced the distributor with the rotor facing the same way it did before I started the job.
Now, the engine will only start up when I push the throttle forward so the accelerator pump shoots some gas in the carb, the engine runs at high RPM and than quits. I know that the fuel pump is working as I had to fix a fuel leak. I do not think I have any vacuum leaks. I can keep the engine running briefly by pumping the throttle, it will go around 2000- 3000 RPM for about 10 sec and than die. I can not get it to idle or run at low throttle.
It appears to be not getting fuel through the carb, but I don't think that is the problem as the engine will only run at high throttle and then briefly. Any ideas?
