4.3 L Oil pump installation.

I am in the middle of a rebuild of my '86 4.3 L GM. I am ready to put the new oil pump on the engine & the Merc manual says to "make sure that the oil pump screen is install with the bottom edge parallel with the oil pan rails." Any suggestions for how to make sure it stays parallel when I put the oil pan on? I am a DIYer, but not really a mechanic.

as long as it's the correct pickup and as long as you have not bent it in any way.... you'll be fine, just install it according to the book.

Ayuh,..
As long as the pickup tube,+ screen are secure,...
The Pan never touches it....

Did you prime the oil pump before installing it?

I haven't yet install the pump but I was told to remember to prime it prior to installation. Thanks for the help
