Re: 4.3 Liter Motor

Update.

I have found a block that has been machined to .040 It is a bare block that i was going to put my crank with new pistons into. It also comes with heads that have already been machined and has new valves. The person that has it doesn't know what it was out of originally.

My question is could I use the heads as they are or are the valves different for marine. I was going to put a marine cam and lifters in it.

The head numbers and block numbers are different than mine but are of the same vintage according to crossover charts.

Re: 4.3 Liter Motor

I have heard so much conflicting information about the block for a boat from different boat mechanics. They tell me that a truck motor will not work because Mercruiser does work to the block they get from GM.

Today I called Mercruiser Corporate to ask them. I was surprised I got in touch with Tech. He told me the block is the same as auto, same things everyone on here has said. He told me the only things that are different are the valve train up in the internal motor.

I have finally found a block with my vintage and block number series. I am getting it tomorrow and will put all my internals inside and have the heads worked.

Maybe I will be ready for water by May.
