4.3 merc help

Im new to boating and this forum which ifind to be the most helpful out there so became a member so heres what i got i bought a 96 sylvan v196 from a guy 2 hrs away said boat was in GREAT cond said it was vortec 4.3 didnt do my research until after i bOught it my mistake we tested it and it ran great but noticed hes not running wot asked y he put it all the way and kind of nOthing ok maybe bad fuel it was such a good deal went ahead a got it took it out ltr and couldnt get over 2900 wot and the shifting was terrible took it to marina to look at it they fixed the cable i hope but they said it was a truck motor it has the center bolts for the valve covers and not 8 bolts for intake they said had high compression in 4 cylinders maybe bent push rods bit runs great at 3/4 throttle now where should i go frOm here and the fuel pump is like a inline fuel filter on a car but its a Pump help would be greatly appreciated thearina just took my money with no answers!

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... ever heard of punctuation,..?? how 'bout paragraphs,..??

I'd guess yer motor is a 95 vintage in a 96 boat, not really a big deal...
And,..
A truck motor is pretty much a direct swap to a marine motor...
So,... That ain't the problem...

I'd start with a Full tune up, 'n Complete service...
The lack of rpms could be as simple as crud in the fuel filters, or to big a prop...

Thanks for the input ive been stressed out about the motor ill try that the prop is 19p the boat is 19'6 sorry about the book i wrote from phone thanks!

Ok in your opinion the 19p prop should be suitable for my boat correct

Ayuh,... If yer gettin' "and couldnt get over 2900 wot"...

There's a Problem...
You've not provided enough Info at this point to Guess why...
I'd Think a 19" prop is about in the ballpark, 'n it only needs a Tune Up....

It'll give ya some Ideas of where to Look...

Bought my 1989 21 ft 4.3l boat new. It has sat for a few years in my garage due to kids and sports.
What I did was change:
Lower unit oil
Engine oil
Power steering fluid
Drained all the gas
New plugs.
Going to install fuel/water filter, never had one on the engine, and change the filter next to the intake on carb.

Have not tried to start it yet.

Thanks for the advice going to work on it tomm got to fix alot of wiring and the fuel pump thats on it is not merc pump it looks like a inline fuel filter for a car but its a pump and install water/fuel filter also doesnt have one either and is there a difference in plug wires from car/boat and dist. cap and rotor pin?

fuel filter near the carb should be a brass mesh and not a paper one.. check it tho so you will know, just check if isnt paper just clean and reinstall

Ayuh,... There's never been a car built with Mercruiser's T-Bolt igntion, so No, ya need parts that Fit...
