I've got a quick questions...

Do I have to remove the cover of the flywheel and the coupler BEFORE the motor comes out?

I've removed the out drive...

once all the little stuff is outta the way, does this all come out with the motor?

Please say yes...(but only if thats correct)

4 motor mounts (2 front and 2 back) then lift?

TIA

Re: 4.3 merc removal...

Remove the lag bolts that hold the front mounts to the stringer. Then remove the 2 bolts holding the flywheel cover to the transom shield. The flywheel cover and coupler remain attached to the engine.

A service manual would have been a better choice than your Trial and Error method.
Here's a link to the OEM manual http://www.4shared.com/document/dKAM4Vg8/Service_Manual_25.html

Re: 4.3 merc removal...

thanks for the replies...

as far as the "trial and error method"...

this would suggest that I've errored...which i haven't...

I stopped before I errored and asked.

again, though thanks for the answers.

on a trailer its tough to get the motor out with a hoist...
I'm going to take the wheels off the trailer to lower it a little.

The hoist that I have extends out and can get high enough with the wheels off the trailer.

LOL, must be a about 35,000 ft flying over it, right ;)

Nope, I'm in Nigeria (well I was when I wrote that), on a boat with its internet connection through a server in France. I'm currently in Italy on our annual skiing vacation.

I have a standard chain block attached to one of the 'A' frames in my shed. It lifts it just high enough, with about 2" to spare.
