Does anyone know how often these fail ? If they do what are the results. I have gone thru thunderbolt ignition checklist & still have no spark. The last thing to do is replace ICM. @ $400.00 not sure i'm ready to part with money if this is not it.

have you removed the tach lead from the coil and checked the shift interupter?

Hi Bt Doctur - thanks for your suggestion. I have not done this - Would you know what colour the tach lead is , what does the shift interupter look like & where is it located.(does it have a nylon roller on it?), To check shift interupter do I bypass it? Also do Ignition control modules fail ? I look forward to your response - thanks again.

Ayuh,... The factory manuals are up in the Adults Only section at the top of this forum...
There's Step by Step diagnostic trees in 'em...

Bt Doctur & Bond-o, you guys rock! I disconnected shift interupter (after looking @ manual in Adult section) got spark! Boat started right away, idled fine & didn't stall. Thankfully marine store had parts (had to buy whole assembly to get switch as it has been updated) not bad though @ $160.00.
Went for a cruise yesterday - ran great! Thanks again for your advice. Now if I could figure how to buy you guys a beer.

Hi
I have the same problem with no spark on a 4.3 mercruiser v6. Think it may be the ignition control module but not sure. Do not want to buy one until I am sure this is the problem as it is also very expensive here in Spain. Can you help and how do I access the manual in Adult section. Thanks your your help.

Re: 4.3 mercruiser ignition control module -HELP

First, I'm Billy and I am a new to the site. I have a 1995 Mercruiser 4.3 also with no spark. I have replaced the coil and disconected the shift interrupter. Any idea on how to check the Ign Ctrl Mod before spending $400 on a new one? Any help is appreciated.

P.S. The motor uses a thunderbolt IV Ign if that helps.

Hey Billy, Welcome aboard. You should start a new thread for your problem instead of asking in someone else's. It will get answered correctly that way.
