I'm going over the manuals for an Mercruiser 4.3 MPI motor and the motor looks real good. Not sure if all the features/options that I was reading is available in a standard carb motor (minus the fuel injection of course) or not? Can someone sum up the differences between a Mercruiser 4.3 MPI and a standard 4.3 carb? Is it just the fuel injection?

Say your looking at a 5yr old boat, if both are equal, how much $ would you say the MPI motor adds to the value of the boat?

Re: 4.3 MPI and 4.3 carb

$1000 bucks. Starts first time, every time. No problems with dieseling, or engine running on after shutting turning off the boat (search on that topic), no need to let the boat idle for a minute or two before turning it off, more horsepower from the same engine, no carb to gunk up, need to be cleaned, rebuilt, or adjusted. There is a reason none of us drive carbed cars anymore. I wish my 4.3 was fuel injected and my next boat will be.

not sure what features and option you are referring to, but on the used market, EFI adds about $1000 to the value.
