V6 idles smooth, runs well except when executing a quick accleration (i.e. in forward gear, the slack pulled out of ski rope, and skier yells "hit it")
I encounter marked hesitation. As in floored, but little change in rpm. Sometimes will start to increase rpm a little
and then hesitate. Engine does not die. If do gradual acceleration, boat will run really well. Have changed gas/water separator. Have mostly new
gas (premium) and all gas was with stabilizer added. Have owned 1 season, starting second.
Had this problem much of last summer, but it would occasionally get better if increased octane,
added SeaFoam, etc, so never had anyone look at it. Some friends suggested the kill switch was malfunctioning?
Is this a likely source?? I pulled one plug last summer and it was a really clean looking light tan. Is this anything
I can figure out?? Any suggestions??? Will an annual service/tuneup correct this problem??

Thanks.

sunbird89,

Your plugs are normal. I would be looking at the accelerator pump cicuit in the carburetor.

My 5.7 Mercruiser does the exact same thing until it warms up. Then I can punch it without hesitation. Have not pulled my plugs yet this year. Was going to wait until I went through the fuel with stabilizer and then change them. Might also run fuel cleaner through before changing.

Re: 4.3 OMC hesitation

I had the exact same problem with a 1988 Sunbird corsair.
After many attempts at tuneups and fuel remedies,
I had the mechanic replace the entire wiring harness
on the engine. There were bad grounding connections.
Expensive, but it solved the problem. I have been trouble
free for 3 years since then.
