Just recently installed the missing parts to my motor...I did what i was told with the 3/4 turn method... The issue I have is I put the motor back together started it and now all I hear is tapping... I then took off the valve covers and lone behold I find all my rockers had backed off... What should I be doing?? I read that it needs to be torqued down to 20lbs but it wont reach that until it completely compresses the spring..

Is your engine a vortec??? These will have roller rockers with a 5/16 bolt to torque them down.If you have the rockers with the 5/8 adjusting nut they have to be adjusted in a certain sequence.

Might want to buy new rocker stud nuts.
Not sure where you came up with the 20lbs.

Re: 4.3 Rocker Arms

I was told because it is a threaded torque down stud the rockers all need to be torqued down to20lbs coming from a mechanic gm... He said if it was not the threaded studs then do it another way... He looked at the studs and told me that's the only way..

Year doesn't mean anything other than the year of the boat. My not be what the engine is at all.

best thing you could do right now is post a picture of your rocker arm studs without the rocker arms on them.

Basically, if they have a step in them where the threads start, you torque them down to 20 ft. lbs. No step you adjust.

Re: 4.3 Rocker Arms

I seemed to have gotten the rockers on correctly I adjusted them while the motor was running which seemed a little easier than all the other ways I attempted... Now I have the motor all back together timing is right on and the motor runs smooth but now im hearing a real faint tapping coming from either #1 intake or exhaust or #2 intake or exhaust... Can it be a lifter???? Should I try that miracle oil that many people have told me to try and hope the noise goes away (not quite sure of the exact name)....

No -- you should try readjusting those valves. Loosen until they clatter, tighten until they just quiet down, then 3/4 turn.

I did loosen them until it clattered and then turned them in 3/4 of a turn... I am still getting this light tapping...
