I have an '88 4.3 OMC....replacing the motor with a lower mileage '95 4.3 truck motor....

The balancer on the replacement motor is different than mine....serpentine system on the '95...can I install my old balancer on this motor or is it a different weight? Or can this balancer be modified to work?

there's a pic with my old water pump put in place....

Thanks

Re: 4.3 Swap Issues

If the bolt holes line up you should be ok. I imagine you will have to change the HB to make the rst work. You'll more than likely have to change the intake manifold. Jerry

Thanks for your reply....I'm using my old intake manifold....both are 12 bolt....mainly concerned about the balancer....just making sure there won't be any problems using my current balancer on this motor....

Thanks

4.3 like 5.7 should be neutral balance. So long as the shaft diameters and keyway match, the bolt holes line up and the pulleys line up, I think you're in business...

i went the other way, from a 96 to a 90. also had to use my original balancer on the new engine. the pulley did not fit, even though the bolt holes lined up. it was too deep to fit the balancer. no problems after about 40 hours with old balancer.

Re: 4.3 Swap Issues

Pulled both balancers....my old one is considerably heavier than the one on the "new" motor....will this hurt? Of course, my flywheel is also much heavier from the donor engine.....

Thanks,
John
