4.3 Vortec or not????

I am now confused, the intake manifold has 6 bolts on each side for a total of 12 bolts.<br /><br />My understanding is (not a GM at all) that 12 bolts = non vortec and 8 bolts = vortec.<br /><br />Well I have 12 bolts, BUT the valve covers say V6 Vortec right on them. What year did vortec start and how do you tell if you have vortec heads

No, the Vortec actually started in the early 90's, BUT the Vortec head everyone raves about is from mid 96 and up. Uses 8 total intake manifold bolts.<br /><br />So I do have a 4.3 Vortec, just not the good flowing head with the fast burn chambers <br /><br />Jeff

Exactly,..............<br /><br />"Vortec" was merely a Name,.... until 1996,....<br /><br />Then it became a New Technology........
