also the marine one has the connection for the fuel pump rupture return hose to connect up to so if the fuel pump diaphram leaks, the fuel returns to and is consumed by the engine instead of into the oil and /or bilge. Stick with Marine for ignition and fuel system stuff. The differences are safety related.

Bondo or RED (or anyone interested),

I am gathering the parts for my rebuild, but curious about the throttle linkages. Will the linkage from my Rochester 2-bbl fit directly onto a Q-Jet/Edelbrock carb?

RED,
Please send me the pictures of your "new" bracket for the 4-bbl setup.

Thanks Guys!

Re: 4.3 "wake-up" time...questions

Guys.... I completed building my house, and had a kid since my last posting.. BUT I can't get this mod out of my mind!

I talked with a Marina mechanic yesterday, and he suggested that the Vortec (automotive) heads that I was about to buy had hardened steel valves, versus my current non-vortec marine (OMC Cobra) heads which have stainless valves (according to him). He said that would create an issue. Not convinced.

He did suggest that a Edelbrock #2111 intake (non vortec)+ Edelbrock #1409 carb would run like I want, with no real noticeable difference than a 4-bbl vortec package. (Rated by Edelbrock at 203hp/260 ft-lb)....It's cheaper to do it that way (kinda like what Bondo did), but Bondo is still planning to go Vortec!

Anyone concerned about exhaust restrictions with the OMC 1-piece manifolds? OR too much fuel being dumped into the small engine??

We also got into the discussion of the gear ratio in the outdrive working against me (especially with the shift prop). Higher RPM's allow for easier shifting. I'm not sure you can really overcome RPM's with pitch....

BTW - I have an extra L&S Torque-Shift prop for early OMC/OMC Cobra (15 spline I think) that's for sale. I have numerous CAMS that we can interchange.....

Thanks again!
Erin

Hey EJA,
I found a place to get the right electronic conversion setup for the 4.3L OMC. I am in the middle of a 2.3L to 4.3L conversion myself.
I have the setup for my 4.3L , but haven't got it in to run it yet.
The outfit is AAA Marine. Do a search and you'll find the website. I'd put it in this message , but I think it is against IBOATS policy to list competitors sites.

:D :D
