Re: 4.3 with a bad cam and distributor? UPDATE
Re: 4.3 with a bad cam and distributor? UPDATE
UPDATE: Got the distributor in, but cannot get the timing set. Found TDC on #1, installed distributor and then attempted to set timing to spec with a timing light. Something clearly isn't right. Timing seems to be "dancing" all over the place. That lead us to think about two possibilities: The cam gear at the dizzy is bad or when the dizzy gear went, perhaps the timing chain got goofed too. It runs, pretty smooth, but it's backfiring through the carb here and there and wants to stall if you throttle up a bit or come back to the locked position on the throttle/shifter without manipulating the dizzy at the same time to keep it firing. It seems like TDC on #1 is always where it should be, so we're thinking most likely it's the cam gear and not the timing chain.
Availability for myself and my free help is limited the next couple of weeks so it'll sit for a while. Other thoughts and ideas are more than welcome.
