I have a 1987 galaxie with a 4.3 V-6 and Cobra outdrive, while i was pulling my son a couple of weeks ago, it felt like a spun the prop hub.. not the case. I apperently spun the drive coupler. My question is... where do I find this thing???? New or used, I think I found one for $340.00, but was trying to get one a little cheaper. Any ideals.
And thank you all for the GREAT info that you have supplied me with in the past.
Mark

Yea, that's about what they cost. Now you know why pulling the outdrive yearly, checking the alignment and lubing the shaft with spline grease is so necessary. Dry shafts will eat up a coupler in a year if only slightly out of alignment.

Thank you for the info. Don S, had mentioned the importance of lubercation... I can safely say that was not the case here, it was stupidity, I had 11 people in my boat, and pulling a 115 pound child, so I am pretty sure I induced this failure all by myself. The boat has been great, but we all have our limitations. I will look into repacing the long U-joint as well.
But again, does anyone know a good place to buy these parts... I prefer to buy on line so it does not matter where. Also I have been told several different part numbers, but I think this is the correct one (3858437) could anyone conferm this number?
Thank you again for all the great info.
Mark

Mark
Try www.ebasicpower.com , they have treated me real well, fast delivery at a great price. Doug russell has more parts but they are almost always more expensive from what I have seen. Ebasic has the part you asked about for 199.00 but it all depends if yours is the one piece seal the # you gave us implies or if its a two piece rear main seal wich is 349.00
