Looong project. Bought the alignment tool and should have taken a photo of the 2x16" gantry I built to support the outdrive while it swung over water on the dock lift. Bottom line... it is installed with a new gimbal bearing now! Everything went well and it took many hours to align just right but when it did, it was easy.

Now onto my current quandary. please see the image. I had ordered an original cable where an aftermarket was used before and now need some kind of an adaptor to attach the end of the new control cable to the throttle assembly. I've attempted to study schematics but so far seem to get the 'other' side photos. also, I screwed in the connector at the outdrive as far as it would go but the control end still is too long to attach to the mechanism at the controls. What am I missing here.

You should probably start a new topic with this.

This is the usual problem...between 96 and around 98 when the joint venture OMC/Volvo was happening. Volvos were being installed with OMC controls. The cable in your picture is an OMC cable because it has the black cylinder on the cable. If you try to adapt that OMC cable to a newer Volvo control, you will have a problem. Just need to find out exactly what you are starting with. Take picture of your original cables(both throttle and shift), your control, and the new cables you bought.

BTW, make sure your drive is in neutral and the control is in neutral. That may be the entire problem if your control is already an OMC control.
