4.3GXI-B Slurping sound when shut off.

Hi all, VP 4.3GXI-B. see sig for serial.

i know these pumps are supposed to make some sound, but what is normal?
I feel like mine is making a rather high pitched noise. at idle it is the only noise i can hear from the engine.. quite sweet to have such low engine noise, but wondered if the pumps are supposed to make such a whine?

does anybody have a audio/video clip I could compare it with? I`m going down to the boat later today and will take a video and post it here..

It is not normal, your high pressure pump is most likely getting ready to fail. Also check to see if the pump is hot to the touch, when I checked a normal pump with an IR gauge it was around 100F while a whining pump was around 130F. You probably have paint peeling off your fuel pump assembly and clogging the screens in the high pressure pump. Search the forums for paint and Volvo fuel pumps, you will get many hits.

Will be approx. $600 for a new pump. The sound you describe is exactly what occurs as NoExcuses mentioned.

Ok, I'm officially an idiot.. I checked the whining noise today. And it isn't the fuel pumps, I'm actually hearing the intake on the throttle body . haha.. I've read so much about fuel pumps lately that I kinda got predetermined what that sound was.. But got another question, I get a "slurping" sound from the starboard exhaust riser breather hose to the throttle body when I shut of the engine. Not from the port side though.
