Hey guys i have another question on this project. How do i get the shifter cable off of the bell housing. Do i just take that piece of wire out and take the nut off of the shifter and then pull it apart and take the other nut off the inside or is there a different way to do it?

look in the stickys at the top of the forum and there is a section on how to replace your lower shifter cable.

ok well i finally got my shift cable removed and the bellows and everything removed. here are some pics to as far as i am right now. My special socket is a 1/2 deep socket with a nut welded on the back of it. It worked prettly slick. i am in the process of making a bearing driver today for the gimbal bearing. I know alot of people say to use genuine merc parts but if any one wants to save a little money i got mine from my local carquest dealer. I trust my guys down there enough to do this i have been doing business there for 20 years or better. great warrenty on parts as well. Hopefully this weekend i will start going back together with it and get it done. Another question tho. Do you guys recommend putting some sealant on all of this stuff like the gasket and the bellows? forgot to put in there yes i did get all new clamps and a water pump hose. no worries there
