Hi All,
I've been looking into oil pans for the 4.3 mercruiser engines and I now have a question.......
I've noticed the 87-95 years have the same part number for the oil pan, and the 96 and up have a different part number but also say there are aluminum for the 96 and up.

Will these 2 pans interchange? Or, is there a change in flanges or shape where it bolts to the engine?
Thanks,

As far as I'm aware they are not interchangeable. Up to '96 the block was one of 3 used, Gen I, balance shaft and Gen II. '96 on was a completely different block, known by the name given to the new heads, Votec II.

If you have the old pressed tin sump; remove it and get it hot dip galvanized! They rust out in about 10 years in a salt environment.

Re: 4.3L oil pan difference

Thanks for the reply,
So you are saying a pan off a 92-93 motor will not fit a 97?

That sucks LOL

I just bought a 1994 boat that had a 4.3 merc in it. The motor was removed before I got it, and last week, I picked up 2 1997 vortec 4.3's.
My friend has a pan off a 1992 4.3 and was going to give it to me.......

Thanks
