Well I'm waiting on parts for my 89 4.3L repower... (second one)
I have a few questions. Last repower I just farmed out. This one will be all me.
I plan on stripping off the heads, manifolds and intake before removing the old block. These are new and will be reused.
Removing the block seems pretty straightforward from what I have read. The only thing that concerns me is the engine alignment. Is it ok to do this once I get the new block in place, or should the heads and manifolds be installed as well before making any adjustments? I'm still working out how to actually lift the block out too. I don't have a picker that will reach into the boat... but I may have access to a loading dock that I can position the picker over the engine bay and chain it up for the lift.
I'd do the intake and heads for the install, but with an aluminum intake, I'm wary of using it for a lift point. If I install the heads, can I use bolts in the head exhaust ports to attach the chain?
Lastly, I have requested a roller cam and roller lifter setup on the new short block, using the non balance shaft engine. Will I have to change distributors?
Thanks in advance guys!
