4.5 Seahorse model year?

Searched this with no luck. Model number is J5RHCNR. I tried to start it today and the rope would only recoil about a 1/3 of the way back in. I loosened the nut holding the assembly a little too far and was quite suprised when the coil came flying out! Any help with the year/recoil schematic would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a 1982 model. You can find exploded views and parts lists by clicking Parts Lists at ishopmarine.com.

I got everything back together, but I can't tell where the end of the starter spring is supposed to be seated. It keeps spining around.???
