I am a little stumped maybe someone can help. I just got my hands on a 4.5HP mercury not sure the year but the SERIAL on the plate is A104960 I looked online and for some reason this does not come up as anything to find me a year but from what i gather its early to late 70s. I checked compression, there is only 1 cylinder and it was good at 120psi. I then checked for spark and i am getting bupkis.
So the ignition coil that i have is the one pictured. When i test for continuity on the two posts my meter beeps. does this mean the coil is bad? or is that not the right way to test the coil.
How do i go about testing it the right way before i spend money on a new coil.
Also the part number listed on the Coil on the bottom is 336-528X (the X is a number that is worn off) but i cant find anything to that effect, the closest i can find is 336-4528 would that be an acceptable replacement if the coil is bad. Thank you.

If it has copper / brown decals it is a 1985 model.----Dealers will require the serial # to get you the correct parts.
