4 hp 1973 johnson, no spark

i just put 2 new condincerson the motor and still no spark..can anyone tell me where the piece that grounds the coils out when i put it in the stop position. i can fell a strong spark when i hold the plug. i dont know where to go from here.any help would be great.<br />ben c.

i have been messing around with it some more and im getting a spark every now and then but nothing consistant

Hi Big Ben,<br /> Is the spark plug grounded to the motor block? Are the points clean? I dress the points with 320-grit wet/dry sand paper folded back on itself to create a 2-sided point cleaner. Then, run a piece of index card dipped in lacquer thinner or carb cleaner through the points to remove any oils or grit. Gap points to .020"<br />- Scott

it was the points......i had no wet dry paper but i used some steel wool and it fixed it right up..thank you for the help walker..
