Re: 4 STROKE OIL

Look out, here comes the oil debates! The oil for your 4 stroke is the same weight as the oil for your car. Check the owners manual and see what weight it recomends (10-30, 10-40, etc...)and what other specs it requires. Many people will only use the brand sold by the engine manufacturer, some will only use marine branded oils, some will use whatever is on sale at the local auto parts store.
Yamaha recomends that I use API rated SE,SF, SG, SH, SJ with and SAE of 10w-30 or 10w-40 for my 2004 f90. Your suzuki will need something simular (check the manual). Buy an oil that meets the specs and you should be fine.

Re: 4 STROKE OIL

Follow JBs advice! I would not use a regular dino automotive 10W-40 in an outboard no matter what the manufacture says, 10W30 yes, 15W-40 yes, but not a 10W-40.

Re: 4 STROKE OIL

HERE is a list of NMMA's FC-W approved marine oils.

Synthetic oils are not necessary, and generally aren't specifically recommended by four stroke outboard manufacturers. Petroleum based oils are proven to work excellent. I don't suggest using a 15W-40 oil in your 70 Suzuki. That is not one of their specified viscosities. And the 10W-40 is one of Suzuki's recommended oil viscosities for the DF 70, so there is no reason not to use it.

Re: 4 STROKE OIL

JRJ
I use my kicker all the time! I troll with it exclusively. I can adjust the speeds easier than with the main, it burns very little gas and it saves a ton of hours on my main motor.
I really like the Arima for my use, I fish and crab almost exclusively, very little cruising or water toys. The boat is very fishable, well made and easy to fish by myself. It is not very fast, and will get a little bit of a pounding in rough water, but I just slow a bit and it settles right down.

According to Suzuki, use a 10W-40 oil or optionally a 20W-50 if the temps are above 80 degrees.

Mobil One 10/30 10/40

Oil Doc.....none of my cars specifcally reccomend synthetic but I have one that has over 240,000 miles with Mobil 1. Never had internal engine problems with any car since using it exclusively.

Sythetics offer better protection and better lubrication upon start up.

Maybe not nesseasary or specifically reccomended but better in the long run.

Kid
