40 HP beeping

I have a 16' Sea Nymobh side console with a 92 40HP Evinrude, runs strong, good compression, good spark, new fuel lines, VRO works (drew a line on the VRO tank, ran the boat around a couple hours and then checked to see the oil level was below the line), when running at a sustained cruising speed across the water the warning horn will begin to sound in short beeps. If I squeeze the primer bulb the horn stops and stays stopped for as long as I am running at speed. If I slow down, then speed up again, the horn starts again. I am guessing it is either sucking air somewhere I haven't found yet, or the fuel pump is weak?
Any thoughts
thanks

Have you cleaned the oil pickup screen? The intermittent beeping is usually an oil alarm, steady alarm is overheat.

I would add oil to the fuel tank until you're positive the issue is fully under control, or you risk smoking the motor.

Jim
Thanks - I did add oil. I always run a mix in a new to me motor and draw a line on the VRO tank so I can be sure it is working without risking a motor. I am going to go over all of the fuel connections this weekend and make sure they are tight, maybe pull the fuel pump for a look see? I appreciate any other thoughts or suggestions
thanks
