Hi Fishinnut
There certianly is torque specs for your head. The are 216-240in,\lbs or 18-20ft. lbs. With a pattern starting in the middle of the head and working in a circular fashion to the outside. The black thing you refer to is a primer selenoid. This primes the motor for starting, in stead of a choke. The red lever is for elect. or manual operation. When the lever is in line with the primer body, it's in the run position. When it's in the crosswize position, that is for manual prime for manual start. The ratio of 100:1 was the original Vro setting. You are right in running 50:1 mix. Vro stands for variable rate oiling. This system is supposed to supply oil at rare between 50:1 and 100:1 depending on need of the engine. I would strongly suggest you aquire a manual that covers your motor. So you can properly check out intire unit. Or have a Pro do this for you.

Hope you were runnimg motor with muffs.
If you run without water you could ruin water pump. Sprayed residue may be just that. But check
Lower unit lube for leaks and water.

Hi Fishinnut
Yes, I would. Because heat creates expandtion and contraction. This can stretch your bolts to break or pull the threads. Could also cause warpage of head.

i will re-torque to specs..i replaced that primer selonoid thing.(..motor ran like a dream last night--but today it wouldnt run with primer lever in horizontal position-kept stalling out--was able to run by putting lever up-crosswise--and got going while adjusting slowily to proper position-horizontally---think theres gummy carb problem or its starving for fuel maybe??is there an actual fuel pump or filter issue i should be looking at???
