40 Merc 4-stroke no power

We just purchased a 20' pontoon with a 2000 merc 40 hp four stoke. The boat sat up for a while and was leaking fuel so we had the carbs cleaned. Now runs fine at idle and up to about 10 knots or 3800 RPM. It cuts out past 3800 RPM, feels like it can't get fuel. Runs fine in nuetral past 3800, but cuts out under load. Our mechanic is going to trouble shoot it in the water tomorrow. Anybody have any ideas?

could be lync and sync or floats i'm very interested to know whats wrong so keep us posted
