Decided to take the boat out today for a spot of fishing. Motored across the bay then stopped to get tackle ready.

Pulled the cord to start engine and away she goes, moved lever forward and the boat stayed where it was! No forward gear, fortunately the reverse worked and was able to get back to port.

There were no strange noises before this happened.

The cables seem OK and the rod which goes to the engaging section from the top half to the bottom is moving up and down when using the remote or manual selector.

The engine remains in reverse and wont go back to neutral. Starts OK with the pull cord (not an electronic start model).

Can anyone suggest what might be the problem?

Cheers
