40hp Evinrude....But what year is it?

Howdy All...<br /><br />I've got a 40hp Evinrude but have no idea of it's model year. Model # E40ELCO Serial # 1013492. I was told that it was the last two digits of the serial number that told the year. This motor looks too beat up to be of 1992 manufacture. Is there anyplace on the web where I could research this motor? Or do you know the year?<br /><br />Thank for any help......Dan

i looked under a ken cook website.i could not find your exact model #,but starting in 1969 the last 2 digits of the model #'s do correspond with the year of the motor.i'm sure someone will give you a better answer soon.couldn't find a model # ending in "co"?

Thanks for the info Ronnie....<br /><br />I know I have the model and serial numbers, but is there any other info on the motor itself that may lead to a model year for this beasty? Like on the block or heads?<br /><br />Dan
