40HP hot air and solenoid choke

my Evinrude 40952R has a bimetal spring for the choke AND a solenoid to close the choke. What is the <br />sequence of operation here? Is the bimetal supposed to close the choke completely when cold and opening as the engine warms, and if so, why is a solenoid required to close the choke as well? Where does the hot air tube draw air from? The tube appears to be in the exhaust, but I can't see the air inlet.

Hi there i believe the solenoid is only there during start up to tightly close the choke, just to get it started, then once running, the bi metal coil takes over and decides when the engine is warm enough to start opening the choke plate, as for where the tube draws from i dont know myself...

At the exhaust baffle plate where the choke tube connects, the air intake is the hole that you see about 4" lower. There's a manifold inside of the exhaust baffle area. Air is drawn into the bottom portion, heated, then drawn out at the top where it travels thru that tube to the choke assy.

There is a pipe thread type plug in that lower hole. Shouldn't this be open?
