40'hp merc, kill wire question

Older 40 hp merc elec. start, stopped running, I pulled the yellow/black wire from the switch box and it started and ran fine, touched it to the correct switch box terminal to kill it, so where is the problem, in the ignition switch at the control box, how do I fix it?

We have no way of knowing where the problem is. You need to do some testing. With the wire disconnected check continuity to ground. With the key on you should read an open circuit. If you don't you need to find out why. Kill switch, ignition switch, tilt switch or a short on the black/yellow wire
