419 Scam

[Amandaboat]

Just been surfing the web and came across this little gem! We do a little bit of boat brokerage - small boats, nothing massive and we have had a few contacts from a few people we have thought to be a bit of the shady side.

Anyone come across this 419scam as a boat broker before? http://www.theyachtmarket.com/guides/selling_a_boat.aspx

That one is well known here, Amanda.

New experiences pop up here or in the Dockside Chat every few months.

I got hit twice on one boat sale on ebay.

that's why i only use paypal, selling and buying. you don't want paypal, i don't deal with you.

I work in a branch of a bank.

In our little town, we have had people taken by this scam.

Our tellers try and catch most of them by kindly engaging the customer in conversation about the purpose of the cashiers check while it's being typed... but sometimes customers aren't that chatty.

Caught most of 'em, missed some that we've found out about... and I'm sure there are some people that won't admit it.

You wouldn't believe the kind, intelligent, normal people that fall for scams like these.

I get those 419 scams on a daily basis, these idiots give our country such a bad name ... this place is really going to hell ...
