G'day,
have a 45 hp Chrysler with magneto ignition ( '74 model, electric start ) bought as a non running project motor, on a stand
changed plug leads around, started and ran several times, went away a holiday, came home couldn't get it to start again, pulled flywheel off again, points weren't opening now, adjusted the old points but spark isn't real "flash"
now the questions..
reading Chrysler Crew manual ( have Clymers/seloc as well ) it says this about routing the coil wires " lead wire ( top one? ) next to HT wire to breaker points...Lead wire on bottom half of coil to mounting screw on breaker point"
(might not have that word to word but close enough )
that is different to how it is wired now, top coil lead goes to the condenser mounting screw and bottom wire goes to the breaker points, but not the mounting screw,
the top wire just isn't quite long enough to be attached per the CC manual but can just touch the the point screw,
which one is correct?
coils are under the flywheel,
also will the condensers off a Battery ignition 45hp work on a magento system
".. .. .. .. points of a battery ignition work.. .. .. ..on a magento .. .." or are they too long?..look longer, haven't taken them off yet
also, l can't get a test light to work doing the spark control link test, screwing the lock nut in or out several turns, have undone condenser etc etc
ignition switch does not show continuity between B and S terminals ( as in Clymer/Seloc manual ) however l've done the same test with two switches and it's the same,
is that a reliable test?
could it all.. or just some of it.. be related to a dodgy switch or a dodgy tester ( me )
one last question, standing at back of motor looking to the front, the coil on the left side is for No.1 cylinder?
BTW,
also have cleaned but not rebuilt carb, have tried a good carb from another motor on it, no joy there
cheers
thanks for any or all help
sorry for such a long post
