I have read and been told to shoot for 5500 WOT rpms as well as 5800 - 6000 . My motor a 1978 Johnson 115 , has 4500-5500 on the plate. I would like a more definative answer , or is it just the mechanic / technicians opinion? I am kinda leaning towards the 5800 , as it seems the popular range. This would save some unnecessary posts,as I have seen several asking the same general question.

Thanks,
KYHunter :)

5500 was fine in 1978 when the fuel was 3 times as good as it is now...we've found the crossflow runs and last longer if propped for 5700-5800 on todays fuel.

Walleyeed, I was wondering. Would the same numbers be good for an 89 88 spl?

Yes, as they are basically the exact same engine in most ways.
