454/7.4 engine oil cooler

I bought a low hour- take out motor to install in my houseboat and the oil cooler is missing. How important is it that I install one? It does have the transmission cooler. I wondered because I have seen other inboards with no oil cooler. Thanks!

I was surprised to find that our 5.0 volvos do not have oil coolers like I saw in the owners manual(or maybe it was the repair manual, cant remember). They are also pushing a house boat around.

Are you sure it had one to begin with?

Ayuh,...

I've never seen an oil cooler on a stock installation of a SBC,....
But,..
I've also Never seen a stock installation of a BBC, that Didn't have an oil cooler...
All of the BBCs I've run accross have a combined Cooler, for the motor's oil,+ the P/Steering..
